Air Force Base Entry - Revisited was created by johnandmari
What’s the deal with the AF – I’m retired AF, and inquiring minds want to know!! As we all know, the AF no longer issues nor recognizes DOD/base decals. Today, when entering Peterson AFB, in Colorado Springs, and upon presenting my ID card to the security guard, which was then scanned into a handheld device, I was told my card was not “registered”! When I questioned the guard what she was talking about, she told me that Peterson AFB requires my ID card to be registered. I then told her I had a both a valid Base sticker (from another base) and a valid ID card, so why would I be required to “register” my ID card with this base. “Base regulation”, was her response. No way am I registering my ID card; besides, we will remain here for only a few weeks, possibly two months. If I am to remain here for more than a month, then I must register my ID card to gain future access to PAFB, was her response.
Why is the Air Force SO out of step with the other branches, and have any of you encountered a similar policy/procedure at other Air Force Bases?

Ft Bragg scans your id when moving around the base. I asked why and their response was that it alerts them to any outstanding tickets, or issues. I have not heard of what you are refering to.

If you ask three "security guards", you'll get three answers, and all different.

I have not heard of registing the ID card, at Luke AFB in Arizona they only want to see the ID. Where does one have to go to register the ID Card??
