A year ago we wintered over in Yuma, AZ. Sometimes when entering the Marine Air Station our ID cards were scanned by the Marine gate gards. They told me that all ID cards are registered when you update your deers information. If someone is found to be not registered during their spot checks they are directed to the folks at Admin for registration updating.

Fort Sill is the same, more and more base/posts are going to this system. Ther are also some pretty good fake IDs out there that can make it past the guards but not the scanners.

So if they're going to scanners to identify you, then why register your vehicle? I know, I know, to see if you have insurance, but they can also scan to see that too. A lot of the states are already doing that.

Always find it intesting that tickers 'guarantee' the vehicle is insured, but the sticker is good for five or so years, and insurance can expire in a month.

Checked Peterson AB site
www.peterson.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123130941
This story dated in Jan talks about the scanning of id cards. Interesting to know. We life near AF Base in TX they are not doing it yet.

Checked web and it appears the system is being used overseas and Petersen started using it in Feb. Guess us retirees who are visiting will have to go to the entry people before getting on base which is stupid because we have the id. I live near an Air Combat Command base and because they stop everyone coming on base they quit requiring the sticker on the car. I am going to do some research, and will get back to you.
