Cable/Wi-fi was created by Bob Vaughn
I was wondering after a recent trip who would Fam Campers contact to encourage the campgrounds to install cable tv, and or wi-fi......in one campground they had great wi-fi but no cable and the other they had great cable but no wi fi......I know some have wi-fi at the office only but who wants to hike to the office in a pouring rain. Or just when the office is open..... :(

It's not just a military thing. Nothing is "uniform" anymore.

The base command makes the decision, but as always, it's about the 'budget' ...

For a CG wide system, it costs several thousnad bucks for repeaters and a strong signal, and then there's maintainence.

If a CG wants to just have it in the rec room or the office -it's about a hundred bucks, but limited use, and that only works if the offic has internet capability already.

I asked at Eglin last winter - $5000 just for installation of CG wide system because it is isolated and has no internet at the CG offices. That's for ONE CG, and Eglin has two, and they are separated by miles, not feet.

There is no overall governing body over campgrounds that would provide uniform guidance on what should be provided in military campgrounds.

Probably the interest of the local command in MWR activities and the ability of the MWR folks to obtain funding for their campgrounds determine what campgrounds have in amenities.

These two facts explain the disparity of military campgrounds in the quality of individual campgrounds. Clearly the campgrounds that do well of those that our valued by the their local commanders and make money for MWR.

I solved that problem by getting the new Verizon Mifi. According to all the accounts it is awesome. It works everywhere and only costs $59 per month. You can have up to 5 wireless devices connected at one time.

A good test for that system will be a lower site at NAS Jacksonville. I'll let you know some time during our two week stay there in January.
