Golf Carts that are Customized and are Street Legal should be okay.
Registration sticker may be required. When e-mail inquiries don't work, :angry: I use the telephone.

IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO A GOLF 'CAR' BEING STREET LEGAL AND REGISTERED IN THE STATE.
IN CALIF, THE GOLF CAR AKA NEV, LSV, MSV, MUST:
HAVE A HORN, REAR AND FRONT LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, SIDE VIEW MIRROR(S), HANDBRAKE, TOP SPEED OF 25MPH, COMPLIANCE SITCKERS, 4-WHEELS, ROOM FOR ONLY TWO PASSENGERS, AND, INSPECTED AND REGISTERED BY THE STATE.

ONCE REGISTERED BY THE STATE IT CAN THEN BE REGISTERED FOR A BASE STICKER.

BY THE WAY, IN CALIF., YOU CAN ONLY USE IT ON ROADS POSTED AT 35MPH.

I CONTACTED THREE BASES HERE IN CALIIF AND THEY ALL DIFFERED FROM NO RESTICTIONS TO VERY STRICT. THEIR WAS NO STANDARD AMONG THEM.

SCRONYMS:

NEV = NEIGHBORHOOD VEHICLE
LSV = LIMITED SPEED VEHICLE
MSV = MINIMUM SPEED VEHICLE

HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS WHO ARE INTERESTED.

G. OKEEFE, MCPO (SW) USN RET

P.S. AT MCB, CAMP PENDLETON, CA, YOU CAN ONLY USE IT ON THE CG.

I have been researching that specific question also.......... In a nut shell, I have NOT gotten a straight and simple answer from either the state concerned nor the military establishment..........

True "Golf Carts" can not be operated on roadways. What you stated about being registered, insured, inspected, etc is correct, but each state further limits what you may do with them........ And each state is different!!!!!

True "Golf Carts" are operated in/around civilian housing communities, and (in some cases) nearby commercial establishments..........BUT, I think the cops just turn the other way.

The term "street legal" is defined by each state, and governed accordingly. What is legal in one state may not be legal in a neighboring state. Further more, if your "street legal golf cart" is duly inspected/registered/licensed/etc in one state (Florida, for example) it may NOT legal to operate it on the roadways in New York. Which makes NO SENSE to me, a car with Florida tags may be operated in New York!!!!

Regarding the military point of view and operating it "on-base"........ Some allow it, and others do not....... The most irritating answer I have gotten is, "It depends" !!!!!!

This link may help you....... rtev.net/ruffandready/media/State_Registration_-_LSV.pdf

I would be interested in following your pursuit in this matter !!!!!
