I think that we can all agree that for the most part, FamCamp Hosts are generous and helpful folks who really want to see campers enjoy their stays.

However, I have travelled from the West to the East, and all points in-between have heard complaints about the FamCamp Nazi at Travis AFB California. I have heard that even though it is his wife and not he that holds the position, he continues to harass, and intimidate campers. At first, it seemed funny, then not-so-funny.

Isn't there a proticol for review of the camp hosts? If not, shouldn't there be? It is my humble opinion that this guy is very lucky not to have ended up behind the woodshed yet, and that in the end, he most certainly will cross the wrong individual and get a 'cumupance'.

Anyway, What is your opinion?

I happen to think Tony,ur famcamp Nazi, does a truly outstanging job. I never really got the feeling u have stopped at Travis, I have many times and perhaps ur opinion is based on hearsay.

Well . . . I would certainly not call Tony and his wife Nazi camp hosts - that would be a bit extreme. I do however feel (based on personal experience at the Travis FamCamp) that they both are sometimes a bit arbitrary in their interpretations of the rules and regulations. That they have a set of rules is clearly evident from the moment you set foot (tire) on the FamCamp premises. From where those rules originate is anyone's guess; however both enforce the rules with a zeal that sometimes verges on boorishness! I do feel their enforcement of the rules often infringes on common courtesy and respect for the client - us. IMHO, enforcement of the rules does not mean they need to beat someone over the head with the proverbial hammer!

Regarding the comment "lucky not to have ended up behind the woodshed" - They have been at Travis for at least three years that I am aware of, and that hasn't happened yet (and hopefully, will never happen). We are all adults and we are all either current/former military and should be able to roll with the punches. Tony and his wife are clearly just a very small bump in the road of a really great lifestyle - RV'ing.

Haven't been there yet myself, but makes me want to go just to see the "nazi-hosts" ... :)

But, on the other hand - when I stay at a FC, I don't interact much with the hosts once I check in unless that host is "friendly" ... and if I don't like what's going on, then I get back on the road -- which is one benefit of 'retired' ...

But, eventually here FC's will become "fuller" as the "boomers" retire and begin using the FC system. We can only hope hosts, and MWR will step up and make this great benefit available equally and consistently to everyone that wants it when that time comes.

I can tell you where the CG staff are not Nazis. That would be the FC at Sumter AFB in South Carolina. The most helpful, pleasant group of employees I have every had the pleasure to encounter.

Another great bunch of folks are the staff at Toledo Bend Army Recreation Area, Louisiana. They really went out of their way to help us with some serious problems when they could have said, "Not our problem."

Most of the staff and hosts we have met have been super, with the possible exception of the slumlord at Arnold AFS, Tenn.
