See my earlier post--- Yes I have problems at Travis FC one of the most vexing was the refusal to accept credit cards. I did a little G-2 ing and found out the person to solve the problem was the Support Wing XO. I ambushed him together with Tony and the problem was solved. Still say both Tony and Mary do an outstanding job and yes they have been at Travis several years and contributed much to the FC.
Anyway where ever I go I try to improve things, last year was new washers and dryers at Fairchild, year before doing away with a stupid rule at Ft lewis which stated you had to relocate every two weeks. Like to think I helped do away with homesteading at Yuma Proving Grounds.
May have had some influence with the Army Reg which forbids homesteading. My point lets all try to improve the FAMCAMPS. One of the Chosin Few

talk about NAZI's! The fam camp host at Holloman AFB kicked my 7lb dog in the head july 2006.
Has anyone else had a problem with this individual?

And so what did you do when he kicked your dog -- mine would have bit him (maybe I'd have bit him too)

Hi Everyone.

I have been to 40 MCG's and 95% of the hosts have been good to outstanding and I tell their bosses such. Most of them don't get the credit they are due. My goal has been to make the other 5%'s life so miserable they quit. Here is my standard quote for problems.

"I have used Larry's site for (2) years now but this is the first time I have delved into the forums. As a retired Navy E9 with 30 years active duty I say to all the retired senior enlisted (E7-E9's) and officers; as on active duty so goes retirement and MCG. You are either part of the problem or part of the solution. Get off your ass and do something or shut and quit complaining or go to civilian CG'. EVERYTIME I have had a problem with MCG I go straight to the MWR director prior to leaving or that day if it is a time critical situation to get it corrected. THEN, I tell the MWR director what is going to happen after I leave. I write a letter after I leave to the base commander, cc the senior enlisted/MWR director about the conversation the director and I had and what I expected to be done to correct the problem and my cell phone number if he has a question. I WILL NOT tolerate my military recreational facilities being run improperly as a retiree just like I wouldn't/didn't tolerate it as the senior enlisted at(3) major commands. We can change these MCGs to make them better. If you can't take the time out of your busy retiree schedule, sit back and I others will take the bull by the horn. If you doubt me, ask the MWR director at Ft Blis TX, Holloman AF NM, Fourth Cliff Rec Area, MA about the bald headed Navy Master Chief."

OK, I have solved (3) problems/bases so far. Today I sent Travis Service Squadron MWR Director via "ICE" a message to Travis that I and wife are coming there in 4/11 or 5/11 and I didn't give them any personal info. I told them if Tony/wife gives me any crap, I,he, Service Squadron CO/Command CSM will be having a coming to Jesus meeting within 30 minutes. Tony thinks he is a General. He needs some serious CSR training. EVERY MCG I have been to when told of a rule I DEMAND to see it in writing. No paper get out of my face. People like Tony like to think I work for him. I/you pay for his site via our fees. They work for us.

Don't get me wrong. I am one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. But. I was handpicked by NAVPERS (3) times to go straighten out(3) major commands and I did it with out raising my voice or threatening anyone. All I do is tell O5/O6's now that I am retired that you can solve this problem locally or we can let DOD IG/Comptroller General come to the base and see whether non appropriated funds are being mismanaged.

So let me solicit by fellow retired E7-E9/Officer men and women to grab the bull by the horn and make the MCG's better than when we got there.

I had to smile, when I saw this topic. We were taking a trip to the Southwest, about 5 years ago, and ran into a host that by far was not suited for his position.

We pulled into base, after a long day of traveling. The MRW, was not at the park, so we checked in there. We had reservations, and they gave us a map and sent us on our way. We pulled up to our site and a pickup truck was on our site. My husband looked for the host, and he did not answer his door. We sat there for 10 to 15 minutes hoping someone would see us. My husband saw a guy washing his RV and asked him who the truck might belong to, of course he was clueless. My husband is a very patient man, unlike me. I told him just to beep the horn lightly. He looked at me like I was crazy, but we had ran out of options, since we seemed to be invisible. He finally lightly honked the horn. The camp host, who was only a few sights away came out of his unit running, and telling my husband it was unacceptable. (honking the horn) I saw it as the only way to get any ones attention, for our problem, after looking and waiting for at least 20 minutes. To this day we have used that phase in a tongue in check way. Some bad moments can be so bazaar that it becomes laughable years late. The host remained a pain in the neck for our entire stay, but out of all our hosts he is the most memorable.

Well, Tony (Travis) is gone.

Hopefully, Howard at Hill will retire soon.
