Which ones?

I'll start with Atterbury. It is a very nice camp and all, but there are 4 host there ! host and 3 asst host and they also use prisoners for maint (no big deal there). So you have the host in lot 1 co host in lot 2 co host in lot 12 and in lot 14 a maint. man. Again a nice camp but with all the training going on there, students and instructors staying at the camp and the pcs in and out. 5 to 6 sites as rentals and only 33 sites in the camp is this many needed.

Earlier this year I have hosted in a state park where there were 165 sites. There were two camp host, but I could have done it by myself. I am now in a state park where there are 80 sites and easily do it all by myself.

I stayed at a FamCamp on the way to my current hosting job for 5 days and never saw the host.

Weekends excluded, I take off whenever I want and the park paid staff covers my duties...which are minimal anyway.

I am absolutely not being negative on hosting, but I suspect if MWR had to pay the host, there would be a reduction in the number.

I was under the impression that all military campgrounds
paid there hosts besides providing the hosts with a site.
Is this no true?

after more research on my own I'm learning that all
Military campgrounds have different rules and some pay the hosts and some don't.

I am one of the two camp hosts at Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune and it is very frustrating to read the comments on what camp hosts should or should not be doing. Every campground is different. The camp host duties are also varied. So one should not assume that the camp host is ignoring guests or is not available to assist people.

At our campground, the hosts are not paid but do receive their sites. We handle check ins after hours for not only the campground but for the other 50-60 types of lodging at the rec center. We handle lockouts from those lodging units and also patrol the beach in the rec area at night. One of us is on duty each and every night. We sometimes find some very interesting situations at night that have to be addressed.

Even when we are not on duty we try our best to help our guests anytime they need help regardless of when they need our assistance.

It is very easy to make assumptions on what camp hosts should be doing without knowing what the specific duties actually are. During the day we have over thirty part-time and full-time employees who work at the Onslow Beach Rec Area. At night one camp host is on duty to handle routine and emergency situations.

As I have said before, there are no standard job descriptions for camp hosts in the military campgrounds.
