Who can use a Military Campground?

I was surprised during a visit a to Camp Mabry, a Texas Guard Base. I was told by the Billeting Office that the Travel Park is only available to Guard Personnel. We drove through the park which has 15 to 20 lots, of which 8 were vacant. Is it normal for a Base Park to restrict different services?

No, it's not normal.

A few Guard operated military campgrounds do limit access to their Guard members only. These campgrounds are not usually operated by MWR and don't come under the regulations for "Who is Authorized Access to MWR Facilities." From my understanding, these military campgrounds were not built using MWR funds.

Camp Mabry insists they will "eventually" open their campground to other military and retired. I have no idea of "when". :dry:

It makes total sense to me, have empty sites and generate no income??? :S Isn't that the govt way??

It all depends on the MCG or I should say the base. Some allow 100% DAV others allow DOD civilians and others don't you just need to call ahead and check. Good luck..

Every Military campground that I have seen and that is a lot, do allow 100% VA disabled to use the campground.
