I am keen to know of anyone experiencing any searches by MPs with K9 sniffers, or other "board and search" operations of any Veteran's RV who holds a valid ID card. Mine authorizes all MWR and general support agencies of any base. I just want to know if there are any whacked-out, paranoid commanders who either have such a policy or allow such policies.

Search these forums and you'll find it mentioned in various places.

Yes - we've had on board searches. Not by a dog, yet. None of the searches have been unreasonable, especially for a military installation. Actually, I think the opposite is true. I've been surprised on how easy it is to get onto some installations.

I've had complete walk-throughs, opening every cabinet and storage bay. There's been just the storage bays. There's been just the mirror under the rig. There's been some type of large "scanners" that we had to drive through.

The worst (if you call it that) was at Andrews AFB. I had to go in the commercial inspection gate and was "trapped" with barriers in front and behind. They did a complete search, then they lowered the front barrier so I could drive through.

I'm GLAD when security takes their job seriously and does a thorough job. I expect to be searched each time I go onto a military installation.

RVI (Random vehical inspection) should be expected at any time and gate on any post. I too welcome it and except it.

Vandenburg was the worst inspection we've had, because we had to remain in a bldg. where we couldn't see what they were doing. They don't distinguish between commercial trucks and rvs.

Replied by a Guest on topic Re: Vehicle Searches by MPs or Rental Guards.
I understand the imperatives of post/base security. I was stationed in Germany in the 80's when the Baader-Meinhoff Gruppe & the Red Army Faction were placing bombs under NCOs cars, next to my daughter's daycare (a dud), and other terrorist nasties. I was the Physical/Personnel Security NCOIC in S2, and Legal Clerk, as a buck sergeant at 23rd Engineers in Hanau am Main.
Naturally, I don't want to think that a sharp guard would wave in someone he/she suspects is someone who's toting an automatic weapon, smuggling explosives, or is obviously a tweakin', glassy-eyed, gin-stinkin' arsehole
The main threat nowadays seems to be psychologically aberrant service members going ballistic, as well as the tragic trend toward suicide, in-family violence, et cetera due to deployment/force strain and mismanagement; that's another issue, of course.
That aside, there are those who legitimately need to have medical marijuana for chronic pain, et cetera. California, especially, is tolerant and progressive regarding this issue. Whether the installations in California, or other MM states, reflect state policy would be my question, then.
