It is pretty simple.

If I understand the original question correctly, I don't think a VA card will get them access to the base or the military campground. I believe you need a DOD Identification, not VA identification. This FAQ explains how a 100%DAV can get a DOD ID card.

Larry, you're right about OP.

But, somewhere in here polarsys asked if disabled ID card gets him any additional services on base that Ret ID didn't. SO, to that Q, I'd say no. However, if he gets the NP disabled card, he then gets reduced rates at the national parks and some state parks that a regular military retired does not get.

SO, to duplicate the military ID card, no - but to get the NP card, yes.

Ok let me clear this up. I am a Viet Nam Vet. 100% Service Connected Disabled. My question was what do I need to do to use the Miltary RV parks.

Larry's answer was go to a miltary base and get a DOD card. I went to Great Lakes the next day with my paper work and was issued the card and one for my wife.

I have used this card at Ft Rucker, Great Lakes, Fort Lenardwood & Scott AFB

I already have the VA Card that states Service Connected, that card won't let you use the base RV parks or the PX.

Hope this clears up everything but it did bring up a load of answers.

Thanks for all the Replys Wayne

True enough, pretty often these forums get off topic, or off OP question, and some answers lead into other questions, and instead of starting a new topic, someone (including myself sometimes) will simply gravitate away and add words, and the 'switch-off' continues.

But these little side tracks often bring to the posting other usefull info too - which is great, and as long as the OP gets answers, beyond that it adds more information for us as well.

Glad you got your answer Wayne - come join any of us at a campfire sometime whenever you find one ... Have a good holiday, you all !! M44 & Genie

If you wanted or needed to get care from a VA hospital while traveling, it would be good to have the ID card. Also, some states Oregon for example, give 100% disabled free camping for so many days a month. If you need medications on the road you can have them mailed to you through the VA.
