If you are retired military, have a retired ID card and are also 100% SC disabled is there any point to getting a second ID card to prove the VA disability ???? Will they give you a second ID card ????? I get all base privledges with my retired ID card. Is there any privledge that would require proving VA disabilty in addition ?????

Thanks for any guidance in this matter.

If you have a valid retired military ID, then I can't think of any reason to have the 100%DAV ID. Your retired card entitles you to more benefits. But I'm no expert on VA benefits.

Thanks Larry. I'm inclined to agree but after reading some of the earlier postings I just threw out the question to either agree or maybe show me a reason. I wouldn't even know if they will give us another ID card so it just may be a dead ended question.

Thanks for the reply

Mostly true, but sometimes DAV's get discounts based on DAV card, and also the National Park cards for seniors or disabled. I do know in Oregon State Parks, for example, DAV's get ten FREE camping days and you need the DAV card to prove it the first time, then you're in the computer. And Oregon has some of the best campgrounds in the country.

And, to receive your NP Card for camping, you need to prove disability the first time too, and that DAV card will do it.

I have all three, and have occasionally gotten discounts based on DAV card and not my Ret ID ... so, if you're eligible, might as well get it.

Then it only remains to do your homework or ask when you arrive somewhere and see - all they can say is no ... and sometimes, you get surprised.

Discounts at movies, restarants, and other civilian vendors depend on DAV card sometimes. Some restaurnats have Veterans Day, some have DAV day.

DAV Card makes little difference in military installations, but in civilian situations, it will make less impact on your wallet occasionally and every penny helps.

her in Texas and I assume other states have them. Is a veterans service officer office. he/she on state letter head listed i was 100% through the VA
i use it when i get my tags and other official state business, hunting licenses etc.
I also use it when i stop at cg that offer discounts for veterans.

Last trip to the VA hospital they issued me a VA id card for use when i go the va for anything. It does not list my % just that i am service connected.
i have the blue access card for federal lands and parks that gets 1/2 off camping , which makes the stay using recreation.gov really cost effective

our state also has a card for its state parks for vets....but no discount on camping, just entrance fees.
hope it helps

Thanks all for the input. I too have the Nat. Park Access pass and use it all the time. Great benefit. It is accepted at most ( maybe all ) Nat. recreaton areas. New Jersey also allows us a State Park pass and no charge fishing ( hunting) licenses. I guess one of these days when I'm down McGuire AFB way I will check in and ask about the ID card.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all. I do value and appreciate all your input. See ya on the road sometime.

Wayne, you just need to go to the nearest VA either hospital or clinic and have your ID card made.
It is pretty simple.
