if you think base stickers are a problem for r.v.s and cars, wait till you try and get one for your motorcycle. last june i went to lemoore. i had my trike, towing my kwik kamp.

i went to the pass office to get a decal for my bike. had i.d. (retired navy) registration, insurance. no dice !

they wanted proof that i had attended a motorcycle safety course. i told them my state did not require one, they said it had to be one put on by the navy ! i asked how that would be possible as i was retired now and didn't have access to those schools. she was unsypathetic and just denied me access.

last month we were staying on lemoore in the 5th wheel. i went to the base safety office with all my paperwork, including photos, to see why i was denied access. well, first of all they do require the course, and you can take it free if you are on base, retired or not. but second - there is no class dealing with trikes. once a third wheel is added, all bets are off. they consider it a small car. so i had him print out the DOD requirements so the next time i have a similer problem i have the rules with me.

the navy needs to re-consider using civilians in the security offices, or train them better.

oh yeah ! lemoore is not issuing stickers anymore either.

Hadn't ridden in quite a few years before starting riding again. Few years ago, I brought my bike to Kings Bay in my trailer. NO sticker and I no longer had a navy MC license. Sooooooooo, would not let me in the gate with bike, even in an enclosed trailer.

Asked where to take it. Ahhh ha !! Kings Bay gives courses. SO, I signed up coincidnetally and conveniently for the same week (once a month usually).

Drove up to the gate a couple days later to take course. NO access. But, I need to bring my bike in to take the course ... No access without federal MC license. OK ... now do I get my bike in to take the course I need again (will be the third time)

Finally, the bike course director (very cool dude)called security. Security made him come over and sign a 'one-day' access pass for my bike AND escort me in - so I could go in and get the course completed - which I did and got the card, which I will never, ever lose again - believe it.

I understand security is security, but come on - you need a coures before you can get on base, and you can't get on base to take the course until you take the course and get the card.

Yousarian would be proud of this one. :) :)

I have had my motorcycle and trike registered on a military base for about 15 yrs. not. I was required to attend a motorcycle safety course to get it registered. It is not only the Navy but a dod requirement world wide. With the trike, you simply take the motorcycle course with modifications for the third wheel. In other words the driving part is modified. They also require that you wear specific clothing, glasses, helmet and a reflective vest at night. It is a hassel.
