taking up camping spaces when traveling elsewhere

Just a ? - does it seem right for a camper to occupy a camping space and then leave the campground for an extended period of time. We are camped here at Destin, Fl - and a previous neighbor was gone for over a week. Now we understand that another neighbor is gone for (2) two months. I believe it is managements fault first of all for allowing this to happen. There are a few open sites so I guess no one is being turned away because of this. I know I would not be very happy if we were denied a camping space because someone has it occupied and they are not even there. What are your thoughts on this? I guess management is just glad the space is rented. I do remember a few years ago we were at Trumbo Point in Key West, Fl. and a lady told us she had her camper parked up at MacDill. We were staying in their rental trailors there. Now everyone knows how hard it is to get into MacDill. This was in Feb. too - which is a prime time for snowbirds.

Had to chuckle when I read this as we visited friends today from Ma. who have a two week stay at MacDill and they mentioned how they heard talk about how the snowbirds (same ones year after year) come into MacDill for many months stay and then they fly back home for who knows how long and leave their RV at the campground. They also said no one at MacDill who is supposedly running the campground knows what the campground rules are. Get different answers from different people so two weeks for them is long enough.

There are times that maybe someone wants to go on a cruise and needs to leave their rig someplace with electric. If the rules allow them to stay at a place for that given time frame and they pay the fee, what is wrong with them leaving it there? We personally left our rig at the base in Tacoma Wa. last spring to go on a Alaska cruise for 10 days. I see nothing wrong with it as long as the campground allows it.

What is wrong with it is that it takes a campsite away from someone else; it's a campground, not a parking lot!! McDill is famous for the 'every year' winter residents showing up in October/November, hooking up and then disappearing for a month over Christmas and New Years. That is wrong.

Have to agree with Stan on the payment. In all probability those sites would set empty for much of Oct and Nov. At least the camp ground is taking in some revenue. We are at MacDill now and that pretty much is how it works. We've run into several folks who have been here since fall and have gone back north for extended periods or in several cases multiple times for shorter periods.
