We've stayed at many military campgrounds and have met the host campers. I suspect some/many of them would have found a way to help you. I base that on seeing what they've done for folks that had a wide range of issues. I'm sorry a Navy base didn't step up.

We were not staying there yet, we had hurried from FL to CA hoping to arrive before she passed away, and we did not make it. When my husband had to have surgery by a specialist in Pensacola and remained in intensive care two harrying weeks, I had to stay in a Motel 6 because there was no room at the 2 famcamps in Pensacola. We even called ahead. This is the sort of stuff I am talking about. I wish more camp hosts were like the ones you know floridakamper!

I recommend placing your rig in storage, so other fellow Veterans can take advantage of their benefits as you have, or maybe it is a active duty soldiers who has returned home after a deployment and want to take some time off and take them camping but here in your case they cannot because you are hogging a space not used. Not being hard on you but there are Vets who are disable and have been turned down because the Homesteaders or site hogging is taking place, think about it how would you feel.

If you are not staying in your rig for an extended time you should put it in storage.
We tried for two years to get a spot at Key West but there were no vacancy. I would hate to think there was a spot there and the "occupants" were elsewhere while someone else needed the spot.
I am not a full time RV'r and have limited time to travel so I can't wait months for something to open up.
Just my 2 cents, Pete

Pete,
I have spent many winters in Key West. The only folks who can even reserve there are active duty unless I was misinformed. My spouse requires a CPAP machine and he cannot get a full hookup spot. If people park down there in a full hookup spot and go somewhere they are foolish to do it. I have never been turned away there was always a spot to camp in. If you mean overflow which is no hookups I think this is a moot point. I have not been for a couple of years so I sure hope things have not changed. They have amenties that work for most people. my husband has even looked at a battery operated CPAP. Hang in there, you don't need to worry about someone putting you out there unless it is active duty military. Just enjoy Pete.

My spouse is 100% disabled. We still manage at most places. There is no special arrangement made for disabled that we have heard of. My spouse even had both knees replaced when we were in the RV (not the surgery of course.. but rehab). I wish people were more considerate but I think that there are ways for management to handle this without us having to look our fellow campers over.
