Virginia Military Campgrounds was created by campgrandma
Hi...new to this site.
What is the best military campground on the Virginia coast? Anyone have a favorite? And how hard are they to find spaces in. We are traveling up to the New England area soon and wanted to try out some of the bases in Va.
Thanks...

Welcome Campgrandma to the website and our discussion area!
I don't have an answer for you (someone else surely will), as we've been spending most of our time these past few years on the West Coast. There's so much to see and places to go.
Be sure to submit updates and reviews of the military campgrounds you visit on the website. This will help other users in the future.

Welcome! We have stayed several times at The Colonies at Ft. Monroe, VA. It is close to the Interstate to explore the Norfolk, VA area and also to explore the Williamsburg, VA area. We have grandkids in the area so we usually stay there when we go to visit. It is a small campground so reservations are a must. It is located right on the Chesapeake Bay so beautiful scenery.

We second Ft Monroe.. Very nice location & beautiful sea wall along the Hampton Roads.. Dam Neck has best beach access.. Ft Story is shady/overgrown but walking distance to the beach.. Langley AFB was once a jewel but turned into a homesteaders shanty town.. Cheatham annex is closest to Williamsb'g.. Little Creel is there, a place to park.. and Oceana never seen it but.. it is the best bet at finding an open site, told that it has full hook-ups & well kept..
Have Fun.. go downtown and tour Wisconsin at Nautica..

Take a look at the Virginia campground reviews.
We just stayed at the Marine Corp Base, Lung Park CG and Loved it!
Look here for mine and others reviews.

I recommend Cheatham Annex, Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown. Very easy to get to off I-64 and close to Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. Diesel fuel on base. Concrete pads, level with full hook up and cable. Take a good length (75'-100') of coax cable for the cable TV. Small NEX, with basics. Next to golf course.
