Grand Opening ceremony is May 22nd. Don't know if camping is allowed starting then.

Information on the new campground is now on the website, which can be found here.

Nightly fee is $60 PER NIGHT. No discounts, no weekly or monthly rates. Ouch!

Wonder what would happen if a MCG opened (at $55 a night) and no one came?

Some parks charge a little more or a little less, but usually somewhere around $20 or under, depending on where, but I hope this doesn't make all the other MCGs think the fees can go that high.

Gonna start pricing like the civilian parks - and run another benefit into the ground.

Cherry Hill RV Park is close to DC and right near a Metro station. Current rate there is $62 a night, and they give a 10% military discount. They also have better amenities, including 2 pools and hot tubs. Seems like we would get more here for less. Where's the advantage of staying at Belvoir?

Like Monkey said...wonder what they'd do if nobody showed up?

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Ditto...

They do have an ICE link for feedback. Perhaps everyone needs to let them know what we think.

Found out the campground will open for business on May 15th, with limited amenities.

We agree 100% with Larry and others. ICE a good idea.

Will make one comment though - I'd take a 'soft approach' to any notes you write. Most often, if a manager/commander gets a complaining angry response, it will achieve the status of a rant, which is usually the circular file.

But, think it out, compare briefly to other MCGs in the country, prices but for a few are $16-$20 a night, and ask him to explain why this one is so high, and where the money goes from it.

You'll get a "we had to build it" probably response, and a "compare with others in DC area", which are too high as well.

I know, we're military, and uses to giving and taking orders, so that's why the 'gentle' approach might carry more weight. It's unusual. :)

And a reminder the commander that this is supposed to be recreation for AD and retired, not a cash producer. I believe this will gain more notice with a soft approach tho' ... major ranting complainers aren't given much credibility.

Course, as commander, he might toss all of it ...

That's just my take - and a follow up note to your own congressman might be good too. I plan to do both, and will copy the note here and the response if I get one.

I think monkey's advice was good and I did fill out an ICE comment. I tried to follow the advice to be diplomatic but on rereading my comments I see I fell off the rails a little, but I sent it anyway. Could they really fill up at that price? Facility info on this website says it's $60 a night -- Could that be right?
