New Website Slow

I'm aware of the "performance" issue and have a couple of ideas to help speed it back up. There is a MAJOR part of the website that's missing compared to the previous edition. I'll work on getting that back in place, which GREATLY reduces the amount of database inquires.

I'll also be doubling the amount of memory on the server, which will help. Hopefully, we'll see an improvement within the next few weeks.

On Monday, 2/9/09, I plan to install a component on the website that should greatly increase the performance. However, there might also be some small problems while I fine tune the settings. Please let me know if you experience new problems. Expected problems will deal with not properly displaying new information.

Larry, if you did something it seems to have worked. It is MUCH quicker tonight on my end.

Yes - some improvements were done. I also am experiencing faster response. I still have a few more things to do that will help even more.

To help improve performance, you'll notice the maps have all been changed.

The USA Interactive map is now an option. It's there as an option if the user wants to view and use it.

The state maps have returned to a static map. I plan to also add an option to open an interactive map of the state on the same page as the static map.

Another large improvement was the addition of a "cache". I won't get technical, but guests will see a "snapshot view" of the website. This snapshot is taken every hour. So the information guests see may be up to an hour old. This GREATLY reduces the amount of inquires made to the database, which speeds everything else up. Users logged in don't see the snapshot. Logged in users get realtime information directly from the database. Most of the day, there's over 100 guests visiting the website at any one time (I've seen 210 guests at once).

Larry,
I like the change with the use of google maps. This has made the pages faster, but still given us the ability to use google when needed.
thanks for all your work for this site, can't say enough.B)
