You have to remember this is being done under a government contract. There is no incentive to complete as it is guaranteed money.

Speaking of government contracts, they're suppose to start tearing up US98/FL30A right outside the main entrance gate this July. They're building a fly-over for the main gate to try to reduce the number of accidents and traffic congestion from/due to base traffic. It's suppose to take about 18 months or so. They're also suppose to start building additional soundside housing where the current FamCamp is located. That's scheduled for June 1. Then again, sequestration was never supposed to happen....we'll see what the future brings! B)

Hurlburt doesn't have camp hosts. I've been asking about that for a couple years now. The number to the marina office is in the listing. I'm really not sure how they're going to work things, but they have a building in the new famcamp facility. The new famcamp is right on MLK Blvd...no fence, no gate, just about 20 yards or so between the facility and the highway. They have the street lights up now at least. They're running a bit behind. Might be around June 1st for an opening if the contractors get their extension approval.

We are staying at Mid Bay Shores and took a drive yesterday to check out this new Famcamp. It's looking good but going to be a long time before completion. They are still working on the bathhouse. The utility post are in at each site. The sites are paved with concrete. There are street lights at about every four campsites. There is a row of pull thrus down the middle with two outside rows of backins. There are no trees except behind the back ins. I forgot to clock the mileage from the back gate to the park but estimate about 2 miles. The park is very close to the road. And if they don't gate it you're going to have a lot of drive thrus. I will try to check it out one more time before leaving town.

Here's a few photos of the construction that was sent to me. These are from early March, 2013:
