I am grateful that we have campgrounds but like the earlier poster I object to pet fees and hope this is not a trend that catches on in other military campgrounds. I also don't think that going down the road to the KOA is only choice when an MWR facility is poorly maintained and dirty. I believe the chain-of-command expects MWR personnel to maintain facilities.

I've never paid a pet fee at any campground, public or private. When we pulled into the campground at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota last summer we had two small miniature schnauzers with us. The camp host asked me how much I wanted to pay for the pets. I told her nothing. Looking around the park it appeared that most of the units there had pets.

I really don't understand the pet fee. I can see charging a extra fee for additional persons in the rig since they are using the campgrounds facilities, especially water and sewer service. Pets are not putting extra requirements on those resources. They do their business out in the grass and we immediately clean up after them.

Pet fees are just another way to suck a few more dollars out of campers... and you're right, as long as the owner cleans up after, a pet cost nothing extra at a site -- a bowl of water, maybe?? But I've never heard of a pet fee at any military campground before ...

Having just left Blanding last week, one thing was VERY noticable upon approaching the gate. A large marquee flashing "NO PETS ALLOWED ON THIS INSTALLATION." Pets could, however, be taken into the campground if the camper could jump through all the hoops, that is, provide documentation to shots and any other documentation that is required for a pet. I didn't have one, so wasn't too concerned. We stayed in a cabin. Nice accomodations.

CAMP BLANDING WILL NOT ALLOW ANY CHANGES TO RESERVATIONS MADE! THEY ONLY ALLOW CANCELLATION WITH NO REFUND. WHY WOULD ONE CANCEL IF NO REFUNDS OR CHANGES ALLOWED??

My husband and I experienced the same problem at Camp Blanding. The people at the registeration desk were soooo rude. We wanted to cancel and then called back the next day and ask if the site was still available. We were told yes it was but our money that had been paid was "GONE'. She said we could pay it again and have the same spot and for the same time that we had already paid for just a few hours earlier. They were so mean about it, almost like they were gloating about taking advantage of us. Camp Blanding needs to either clean house or retrain workers in customer service skills. The cost is also double what the state parks charge military. I was very dissapointed in being treated with such disrepect. We all deserve much better than that.
