Hi Joel,
Since joining this great web site I've posted a number of pictures. We always take pictures of our camp sites for future reference.
Nice PIX of a corner site at Fort Bliss. Two of those rocky sites at NAS Lemoore. One on the lake at that little AFB in NH - could not fish in that lake when we were there. Took lots of pictures of that awful Smith Lake CG at Fort Bragg, NC but the one I posted shows it all. AFB at Del Reo, TX has had the largest military site we have stayed on.

Thank you all for the suggestions so far. I called Shields Park at NAS Corpus Christi today and they are all full up for extended stays. Could get a night or two then out for a week or so and then another night or two. Will probably try there next year. Does anybody have any suggestions for private parks in the San Antonio area?

If you decide to go to the private side, we can recommend this one. It's between San Antonio and New Braunsfel and is a good location and nice park. They gave us a military discount when we were there a couple of years ago and were very helpful when we had camper problems.
We stayed at Fort Sam in April for 5 days and it's a terrific campground though a little dicey to locate if you aren't thoroughly familiar with the area or have GPs. The cxampground book is pretty good, but the distances are greater than we ahd anticipated after leaving the freeway.

Once you past Del Rio you are no longer a winter Texan for sure. If you like the beach head south, past Corpus Christie and out Mustang Island on the Gulf Coast. There is off off Hwy 361 a Texas State Park, Gulf Waters RV Resort, Pioneer RV Campground and just off the Hwy is On the beachCampground. Best of all of them is Gulf Waters and I am prejudice about that since I own a lot there....But it is the best looking. All the campgrounds I mentioned have a very large beach within spitting distance and it is a matter of walking over the dunes. You can drive the beach if you wish. You can even camp on the beach boondocking at the South Jetty in Port Aransas and watch the ships come in and go out of Corpus Christi Bay...always fun for the ex-sailors.

Sorry that Shields was full. Here is another suggestion. On IH-10 going west at exit number 501 is the Buckhorn Lake Resort RV park. Have stayed there a number of times and while the rates may be a little high, the setting is just magnificent. It is just about 70 miles from San Antonio and centrally located for excursions in the Hill Country.

Stayed at Tejas Valley just off loop 1604 near water world. Nice quiet campground and wifi available but not free. Handy to go to different areas in San Antonio easy access to major roads. You can look them up on
