New FamCamp at Dyess AFB. Need Your Feedback!

So is or is not this fam camp open? I thought I saw a "Added" notice a few weeks back on the home page but there is nothing there now. Anyone know the status of this place ... for those traveling east/west on I20, this base is ideal!

Good question. Here's the last we knew, which was published in the May newsletter:

Dyess AFB FamCamp, Abilene, TX - This new Military Campground was scheduled to open a couple days ago. The campground will have 18 full-hookup camping stations, six dry stations, an area for tent camping, a laundry and bath facility, as well as picnic tables and umbrellas. Two of the campsites will be handicap accessible. My calls to Dyess AFB MWR haven't yet been answered, so I can't yet confirm if they are open. The original opening date was for December 2012, then April 2013. Both of which obviously slipped by. The contractor has until June 20th. Construction started in June, 2012. I should have more information soon. Once we've learned the details, this new famcamp will be added to the Website and the Directory software.

I'm still not getting any response form the Dyess AFB MWR. Any help??????

OK I just got an e-newsletter from Dyess Force Support dated 6/5 and it states: "Coming Soon! Have family visiting this summer or later that have RV's or campers? Look for the Grand Opening date this summer to reserve a slot for them in the new FAMCAMP! For more information contact Outdoor Recreation 696-2402."

BTW the area code for Dyess is 325.

Just for the heck of it I tried the phone number above. John from Outdoor Rec answered. He said the contractor was supposed to be done by June 20 but just got a 30 day extension. So the end of July is the new date.
