I finished a 3 year tour there as one of the camp hosts. If you have not been there, you are in for a real treat. Right on the ocean and the Inter Coastal Water Way.
4th of July is one of the busiest times at Onslow. You need to make your reservations as soon as it is possible to make them.
The beaches are great. The new office should be open by the time you will arrive. The Beach Exchange (camp store) at Onslow Beach is closed because they are building a new one. I do not know when it will open. It is about at 7 mile trip to the Main Base and a bit farther to get to the main shopping and restaurant areas.
One problem that is manageable by planning ahead. During the week between 3 and 6pm, traffic off base is very congested. So if you plan ahead on your trips off base, you will be ok.
Just plan on busy beaches and a crowded campground. The camp hosts do a great job keeping things functioning well after the office closes in the evening.
Enjoy yourself!!!

Glad to see this discussion here as we have thought about going here too. Do they have sites for a 45' class A with 4 slides and a tow vehicle?

Yes, they can accommodate your motor home but MAKE SURE THEY KNOW THE SIZE of your unit when you make your reservations. Not all of the sites can handle a rig of your size. Normally, they do not assign a site until you actually arrive so you need to make sure that they have kept a site that will work with your unit just before you arrive.
You will enjoy Onslow Beach!

45' with tow, WOW I'm impressed. I barely can get my 36 footer around. Not trying to be smart, just that's a long vehicle.

Thanks Curt, good to know as we are planning on staying for a week on our way back from a trip to N.E. in the fall and visiting family near Raleigh.
Yes gesuhan it is a long vehicle and we started out with an 18' trailer and progressed from there. Hubby was Army transportation so he feels right at home in The Beast (my nickname for our Zephyr).
