How to camp in Key West?

Just back from Trumbo.. spent 6 days in "the field". Had a great time.

Lots of people have "blue boys".. sure that someone would loan you one for a one time use.. also a 55 gal drum being loaned out to refill water tanks..

You need a genny.. even if just a little one to recharge batteries.. the propane truck is around every Friday to refill bottles..

We walked into "town" every night.. ate fresh fish until I thought I would grow gills..

Sigsbee is nicer than Trumbo but Trumbo is walking distance to downtown Key West..

Fee was $12 a night..

Well look forward to a great time, 1. A small 2500 quiet Gen is a must for your refrigerator, 2.a portable tote also is a must unless you can borrow one, We stayed at Sigbee which is close to the PX and Commissary, but if you want to be close to downtown KW stay at Trumbo but Trumbo gives me that crowded feeling which I did not prefer. Sigbee has a new dump station and laundry and also you can fill your tanks as you see fit and how you can. When you go to the Southern Most Point Bouy go to the shop down the street and get a hand Painted Bouy that is your KW trophy which will draw much attention wherever you go, so prepare to be amazed and fun-i-fied

We just got home from a 6 week trip to Fla and back. During our trip we spent 4 very nice days at Sigsbee, Key West. I had called ahead and knew what camping accomodations to expect. We even brought a generator with us. We were directed to a nice site in the overflow area. If you are lucky ( but don't expect it during prime time) some of the sites in overflow do have hookups. Most likely you'll be directed to a dry site. Do plan ahead and fill your fresh water tank before setting up. Don't ask how I know to do this. Our site was off to the side but did have an ocean view. When necessary or when leaving they have a clean and convienent dump station. They also have laundry and shower facilities if you need them. All of this and they call it the "OVERFLOW". And they also say that they never turn anyone away. We did run our generator for a few hours in the evening to keep the batteries up and to watch a video. The stay there was very nice and we are already thinking ahead to next year and returning.

Is it likely that during summer we could get hookups at Sigsbee or is it still a rotation thing? Does it get so hot that ac's are needed everyday?

The rotation system should only be in play when the regular sites are filled up and they go to overflow. Summer would be their low season but only a phone call near arrival would be able to guide you. I found some that preferred the overflow sites and when they came up for rotation let themselves be passed over and stay in overflow. Most did have a generator also. Except for the issue of hookups the overflow is very nice. In summer, of course, hookups needed for the AC usage.

Have not been to Sigsbee for over 3 years and plan on going down in the near future. Is the office open or closed on weekends? If closed do we park our RV and tow at the office and walk over to the host or do we take a site and then check in on Monday? Have called several times and left a message with our phone number but no call backs.
