Hey Monkey44 I think you made an oops, I did not say anything about categories, did you mean to quote ssgoodheart?

I'm starting to see the problem. I've always over simplified things. To me, if you've got a nice, well run military campground with an ocean view, you have a good chance to win best military campground. If you've got a nice, 4 site military campground with water and electric, you shouldn't win best military campground. The one thing that's a given.... You can't make everyone happy. This is still my favorite website. And Pelican Roost, you're still my favorite campground. Merry Christmas to All or, is it Happy Holidays.

I'm kind of disappointed that you're not going to do the "Best Of" voting this year Larry. I've always looked forward to this "Feature" of the MCG site, even though it seems the same CG's win every year. A couple of years ago you added East and West categories and that seemed to work pretty well, until the same campgrounds kept winning on both coasts. It is frustrating to those of us who have been to some pretty nice campgrounds that really don't stand a chance of winning because they're not big enough to be utilized by more people.

Maybe adding a few more categories might make it more interesting? Perhaps having a "Hall of Fame" for those CG's that win 3 times? I've talked to camp hosts and managers around the country and it's surprising how many of them visit this site on a regular basis to see the comments about their campgrounds. Some recognition might motivate some of them to do a better job, if they thought they had a chance of winning. Might be worth giving it a shot to see the response.

I don't think that you should have so many categories that it cheapens the award, but they should reflect the general size and layout of the campground. I would suggest the following:

1. Large campground, East and West (more than 25 individual sites)
2. Medium campground, East and West (10 to 25 individual sites)
3. Small campground, East and West (less than 10 individual sites)
4. "Primitive" campground, East and West (W/E only or no utilities)

I know it's a lot of work to do something like this, but you're not alone in this Larry. I would volunteer to help out on something like this and I'm sure there's a few others who would be glad to help out. Let us know!!!

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

The voting and awards were a nice tradition.

But we never did agree with the election results.. the winners were always very nice campgrounds but the campgrounds that we liked best were always down the list..

We could do like the auto makers do, make it "best in it's class" then have a 'class' category for each campground, and every one could be the best MCG in its class ... :) :) :)
