Have you heard that many of the Military facilities are allowing civilians to occupy their RV Parks. Here is an email that I wrote each of my U.S. Senators and Congressmen/women. I urge you to do the same. Just Google for U.S. Congressmen and the site will list your Senator and congressman/woman. Feel free to use the below post, with personal changes, for your copy and past. ACT TODAY AND NOT ARRIVE AT A PARK TO BE TURNED AWAY DUE TO SITES BEING OCCUPIED BY CIVILIANS.

"How can this be true. The Texas military, both active and retired, are in a rage over the policy of allowing the civilian population to occupy the Military facility RV Parks! You spend 20 years serving your country, paying for the privilege, but when you arrive at the RV Park you cannot get a site due to civilians, yes even those who protested the VN war of which I served, occupying many of the sites?"

Here is only one of several parks with this policy, WITH OTHER PARKS CONSIDERING THE SAME POLICY!

This is one of the latest: Shields Park NAS Recreation Area

Respectfully yours, Charlie

Somebody correct me if I am wrong here but I recall Corpus Cristi allowed civilians for several years, this is not new. Have not heard of any others but sure would love to know if they are out there.

X2 LamSan.

Shields has had this weird policy for several years now, but it's the only one that does, as far as I know. There's quite a few that will allow civilian guests of authorized users, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

What other military campgrounds are considering going to the system used as Shields? I haven't heard anything about a widespread effort to allow civilian use of military campgrounds. Anybody else know anything about this?

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Charlie,

Can you let us know what "several" other parks of the "many" ypu mention are allowing civilians? I have not heard of this with the exception of Shields at NAS Corpus Christi and a NG park in Wisconsin.

P.S. You only need to post your item once... we'll see it.

There's one down the Atlantic coast, but I believe it's run outside the base and just allows military in at a special rate.

I remember it's something odd, but military and civilians together, and not a MWR facilty.

No others that I know of except guests of aAD or Ret, and some DoD as well.

Yes, I realize that civilian "guest" are allowed to occupy many MWR parks, although I personally believe that the civilians should not, under no circumstances, be allowed to occupy a park when active military or retired personnel are put in the overflow. Yes, I also know that CCNAS' FamCamp is one of few that allows unsponsored civilians to occupy a site with no time limit. This is, in my book, totally unacceptable, especially during high season periods. We all have our opinion, and this is mine. Happy trails to we meet again, Charlie
