Along the same lines, it is a horrible they are not checking IDs at the commissary or PX. When asked about it, the manager said because you have to have an ID to get on base. REALLY??? Have seen many occasions of dependents shopping for friends or family members along with them. This is one of the benefits our guys were promised in return for serving our country. Civilians should NOT be allowed.

The RV Park at Fort McCoy lets non govt personnel there. In fact they can even make reservations for the spot. They only pay about $5 more per night. That is agreat deal for them to camp.

In the past 3 months I've been in 6 exchanges and commissaries and my ID or my wife's were checked each time in each place. They didn't check on entry but at the registers. That does not mean that I couldn't take people in with me to do their shopping which I don't. They only check the ID of the person paying the bill.

vwbluestar I am not happy when I see generations of people shopping on base either and no matter where we are we have always been asked to show at least one of our ID's. I remind myself it is the person with the ID that made the decision to let his civilian family or friends shop on their ID so that is where the problem lies and at times I have been tempted to say something but doubt it would accomplish anything.

I remember a time when every person entering these facilities were ID'd on entry. At the exchange you could sponser a person and sign them in as a guest. But at the commissary every person (including children) was ID'd at entry and if you didn't have an ID card you didn't get in.
