Just returned home from winter stay in Key West.Stayed one month at Sigsbee, with full hook-ups,then moved over to Trumbo Point and dry camp the rest of time.IF you camp one time in the Keys you will be hooked for life. The weather, the people you will meet, and the friendships will never be forgotten...........

We go every year in November/December. This year we are going in April for a change. Whether FHU or Dry camping, it's a place that should not be missed. We have met some of the nicest people there and the hosts go out of their way to assist if needed. Just a fantastic place.

I have heard that Sigsbee is a great place to visit but also I have heard of the Homesteaders that have become part of the Click and are hogging good spots because they come back year after year and they allow them to make reservations for a specific site, this is not right. again if we all are either Active or veterans we need to show some consideration for the active duty warriors that would love to take their families there after being deployed but can't because of the Homesteaders and extended stayers. If some of the folks who are guility of this think of the times when you were deployed and when you got that time off to spend time with your family. We plan to visit Sigsbee soon, I just hope the War stories are overrated and access is better than advertised by other RVers.

Not sure you have been talking to but this was not our experience down there. We were told right up front that they did not take reservations and if the park filled up we could only stay on full hookups for two weeks, and that was after we waited our turn dry camping. I don't know about homesteaders there. There were several that it was obvious that they had been there for some time but they rotated back and forth just like everyone else or they elected to dry camp the whole time so they would not have to move. Sigbee is a great place to be in the winter and the people operating the place do great work.

Sigsbee & Trumbo. Great places. Middle of Feb is the busiest times. Last Feb 2009, there were almost 600 rigs and room for more. Escept for hurricanes, they have never turned anyone away.
All of the comments about homesteaders are simply not true. The people that appear to have been there for a long period have been, because they work there. They are either a camp host or work for MWR. As such, They do not have to rotate.
Active duty: Any active duty person coming in goes straight to the top of the waiting/rotation list. There are always spots coming open every day. 90 FHU spots with a max of 14 day stay, so any active duty person does not have to dry camp if that is thier choice.
If you don't mind dry camping, and want to be close to town, most definitely stay at Trumbo.
If you arrive after business hours, very common, they want you to overnight near the MWR office. However, Find a camp host from the park you want to stay at, Trumbo or Sigsbee, and he will probably give you a site right then. If you want to stay at Trumbo, go directly there, get set up then go to MWR and tell them when you got there and your site number. Much simpler. Make sure to check in with the camp host when you arrive.
