It must be time. It is on my mind most of the time. Thanks for the affirmation.

Wish it were retirement but I was part of the great rift of 1990. My position was going to change to an E-5 Slot and I had 6 years as a E-6 so with 19 years and three months I got the rift. I also had been injured in an airborne operation in 88 and so I was also applying to get a medical out but the rift beat me to it and I was out. I applied for the VA disability because of the injuries and they gave me 100% unemployability and 80% actual. So applied for SS and got the SSD as well. Some tell me I make a heck of a lot more than if I had retired and also all my incomes are tax exempt so more good than harm came out of it.

I have 11 months to hit 20 years, scared as hell to transistion back to a civilian in these uncertain times. The thing is "Been there done that" and now getting tired of the same Ol same Ol and the new generation has changed, the Army is not the same.

Even though it's not "the answer", even with my pension I still qualified for Unemployment Insurance (at $450 a week). It's not great, but it ain't bad either. I'll make due until I get hired on with someone I want to work for instead of having to settle for a "no where" job that doesn't pay very well. And, who knows, this may all turn around soon...

I found hardest decision was deciding to retire. Once that was done the rest just fell into place. Been military retired 25 years and retired 5 years from a public school system (This decision was easy).
Now enjoying every day by waking up with nothing to do and going to bed with half of it done.

Curious as to what state approved UI benefits after you retired. My second career was with the UI Benefits section of the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. Retired three years ago as Operations Manager of the statewide UI Call Center. Under Oklahoma law any retirement benefit you would receive would be deducted, dollar for dollar, from any UI benefits you'd be eligible for. Each state writes their own laws of who is eligible for benefits and under what conditions so this would vary from one state to another.
