The Military campgrounds are limited by thier numbers and spaces available. This is one of the benifits for serving 20+ years or 100% disabled / DOD. If everyone that served was allowed to stay then it would be impossible to get a spot. Its one of those things you had to do the time for. What would be next commisary / BX-PX-NEX / full base access?

You nailed it. With the millions of vets out there it would be a mess. Got to be some kind of system in place.

Not sure of the current status, but in the 80's there were STILL 4 people drawing CIVIL WAR benefits and retirement

There are some that are off base and open to you if available.

Hi, I served for three years and would only ask to stay overnight while going from point A to point B and nothing more. I don't want Px or Commisary priveledges. I wasn't a weekend warrior either. Yes retired active duty should get all the perks, no question.
Well at least I get VA benefits at the VA including prescriptions.

Would like to answer the guy about Va benefits when he has tricare. Why would you need VA benefits when tricare pays for everything including eyeglasses and prescriptions.

Well I was just curious what CG's allow us active members who are not retired military to stay overnight.

While it's true non-retired/disabled can't use the campsites, there appears to be ongoing misconception about using VA medical, which is available to all vets. Don't be mislead by someone at the VA or out in the world not knowing the facts. If you are a Vet, you have lots of bennies... including the VA. Most counties in the country have Service officers. Go see him/her.

Answer:
Tricare cost the veteran money per year (like regular health care insurance.) but less, and you have a co-pay on medical care, and a flat rate for prescriptions - not high, but its there.

VA care is free (well, we earned it, it's not FREE) but we paid with service time, or injury.

Plus, MCGs are for active duty and retired, and 100% DAV ... but once you're out, that's it for MCG - it's the rules, but you can camp next to me anytime, anywhere brother...

There has to be a cup off someplace. If they allowed every soldier who served to stay in the military campgrounds then the would be full all of the time and there would be no space for active duty.
