Maybe I've missed something. When did Tricare start paying for eye glasses?

Not positive, but I think TRICARE pays for the eye exam, not the glasses. I get mine at the VA, but as I recall, my wife got her eye exam paid, but then had to buy glasses. Check for sure with Tricare ...

Answer:
Tricare cost the veteran money per year (like regular health care insurance.) but less, and you have a co-pay on medical care, and a flat rate for prescriptions - not high, but its there.

VA care is free (well, we earned it, it's not FREE) but we paid with service time, or injury.

Plus, MCGs are for active duty and retired, and 100% DAV ... but once you're out, that's it for MCG - it's the rules, but you can camp next to me anytime, anywhere brother...

VA is not free. While I am no expert on VA care it goes something like this:

Service connected and RATED (meaning the VA knows you have it and its in your records, it can be rated even at 0% but it has to be on your list of issues as service connected

If its NOT service connected and on your/VA list then you have to pay something but I do not think its much.

If you are rated at a certain % then they pay for everything whether service connect or not.

PLEASE check with the VA my summary is only some info a kinda sorta remember what the guy told me up there one time.

If your a veteran with no approved rated disability, you will have to pay a Co-pay when using the VA system. Even though I'm retired Military, I was able to get a 10% disability due to Tinnitis. I now do not have to pay a Co-pay. Earlier it was stated that eye glasses was thought to be paid by Tricare. Not yet, nor is the exam, so I get mine through the VA.

Tricare used to pay for an exam every two years. Don't know if they still do or if Tricare for Life does, as since 2005, we get our glasses and dental work done in Algodones Mexico when we pass through Yuma AZ on our way to La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico where we spend the winter.

Don't be mislead by someone at the VA or out in the world not knowing the facts. If you are a Vet, you have lots of bennies... including the VA. Most counties in the country have Service officers. Go see him/her.

Yes, right on. Sometimes, vets on here give out information that might be inaccurate - probably including myself as well, tho none of us try to do that intentionally.

The VA and Tricare qualificatiosn and what is covered takes books and books of legal mumbo jumbo to figure out, and even then VA and Tricare sometimes get it wrong. Depends on who you ask. So, if we have a question here, it's good to get some direction.

BUT, if it were my benefits in question, after I listened here, I'd then go to a VA service rep - like DAV, VFW, and find out for sure. Those reps will look it up and find out for sure based on YOUR case, not a guess, while some of the 'regular workers' will just tell you what "they think" which is like an "assume", and we all know what that means.

So, when it comes to benefits, I'd go direct to the service reps after doing a little homework -
