Again off topic, but in line with current discussion. To the best of my knowledge and based upon your category rating, VA will provide exams if service related injury or diagnosis of diabetes(as in my care). They will also provide non-service connected eye exams for a fee (mine runs $50)and you can get free eyeglasses from a designated low cost selection and limited selection (Gouche won't get it). Tricare does not pay any normal or routine exams or eyegless except in cases where the eye is injured through other than normal means.(such as related injury, cataracts may be involved, or a medical necessity made by accident or injury resulting in advanced eye care procedures, such as surgery. At my level and category, my wife is not eligable to qualify for any of these benefits. Neither VA nor Tricare will provide no-fee exams, glasses and other normal services. The same rule also applies to hearing aids, which are not covered by either plan unless it is service connected.... JMHO...

You have to have some sort of medical condition in order for medicare to pay for the exam, also they will get you a pair of glasses. Oh, one other thing, you'd better follow-up on your exams from the VA. If you go over two years without being seen, they'll drop you out of the system, and you'll have to go through the initial process again. Found out the hard way.

Gesuhan,
I don't know where you are at or who you are talking to about getting an eye exam but Tri-care does pay for eye exams (routein)every two years. That is from the regulation. You need to contact Tri-care and talk to a supervisor about it. Someone is giving you the wrong info. As I have stated before on this forum, my wife and I have had routein eye exams for over 25 yrs and never paid for one yet. Tricare has paid for them every time.
