Wow,
My wife is Pilipina and you would greatly appreciate her, she is nothing as you have described. She would help or feed any stranger to include you. I travel to many Army & Air Force posts/bases and I always notice a mixed crowd of baggers not just one ethnic group, Pilipinos seem to be one of the least that we see. I agree and would use a "Bag It Yourself Line" if it were available as I tipp on the low side since they do make a good dollar. Anybody rude and careless deserves less but I think ehtnical posture has nothing to do with it since any of us can be rude.

I agree with previous post. I think you have to be phillipino and speak tagalog to get a job as a bagger. My wife and I generally save the tip until the end to see how they do. If they take care, and do a good job, I don't mind throwing out a few dollars. But when they are rude and careless(most of the time), I don't give them a thing. They are indignant and rude, and usually say "have a niceeeeeee day" very snotty. I smile and say "thanks" and keep my money. Let them go somewhere else. They seem to hate American's anyway. I do wish they would just let us bag our own, give oursleves the tip, and get rid of the clutter standing around the door with their hands out.

I guess I just see them as trying make ends meet. Don't look down your nose at them and give them a break. They work for their money too. Walk in their shoes for awhile see what a thankless job they have. Remember being thankful should go both ways!

Commissaries sell cigarettes on a consignment basis from the Army & Air Force Exchange Service so they are not sold at cost like other commissary products.

In November, 2000, the Department of Defense (DoD) established a cigarette pricing policy that requires exchanges in the U.S. to survey and set prices not more than 5% below the lowest local competitor in their specific area. For this reason, prices will vary from commissary to commissary within the U.S.

F-E ... that cigarette policy is similar to fuel policy -- don't know what that has to do with tipping the baggers, but probably deserves a post of its own so we can share what we know about commissary pricing ... if commissary pricing ever gets influenced by the "local grocery" prices, we'll loose that discount benefit as well. Every time an outside contractor get his f...g nose into a benefit, ostensibly to "save us money", the price goes UP -- NEVER seen it go any other way.

I know its been quite a while between the last post and mine but I need to say something. I just can't understand why there are so many bigots on this forum! Some of the baggers don't look like you and there must be something wrong with them. I hope you weren't stationed in Japan and Panama like me. If you were, it must have been misserable for you there.

We always tip 25 cents a bag and have never had any bagger be rude to us. BUT having said that, most commissaries now have self checkout lines and we use them! We're retired so we don't care about the possible wait or the the inconvenience of needing help if things don't scan correctly. It saves us a few bucks.
