We like the self checkout lines also because it saves having to pay a bagger. I don't mind putting the things in the bag. The worse thing is the computer always has some problems and causes a wait, but who's counting, we have nothing but time.

As I look at the baggers, I see quite a few kids trying to earn money, some wives of service members and many older folks who are probably retired military or dependents/widowers/widows of retired military.

We buy for just my wife and myself and we never more than $200 and it is normally between $70 and $100. About half of the time we actually take our own groceries to the car.

I tip $3 at a minimum and sometimes $5. I think that bagging is hard work and that most people that are baggers are in serious need of money. They too are a part of the military community. Remember that some of the really older military retirees were not as generously rewarded as we have been based upon when they retired.

You know the 25 cents per bag was considered proper when I came on active duty in 1971. I am not wealthy but I will never miss the small amount that I give to baggers a few times a month. They earned it.

If we can afford to own an RV and travel what is wrong with helping someone out with a tip. Sounds like some of us need to remember what it was like to just make ends meet!!

I usually tip $5 per full cart... Most baggers can do 4 customer per hour = that's $15-20 per hour, tax free...pretty good if they hustle...not bad money IMHO, love to see young kids working versus sitting in front of a TV playing video games or hanging out on a street corner

I haven't seen young kids bagging ever. Always spouses or retirees.
