Curt,
You don't need to name the campground, but can you give us a hint. Is the campground in FL?

I just cannot say. I might want to stay there some day. The place certainly has not "gone to the dogs."
That is all I am going to say.

And one final comment -- it seems to me that if a CG host is doing its job, then a site is small price to pay for the operating upkeep, and greeting and explaining, etc. Plus, someone is there to "call maintenance or secutiry" if needed. Even in small units ... I'd never have a problem with that, even at a place like Carr Point, where there's only six units.
Problem is always whether or not the host does the job -- if not, then it's never worth it. I'm willing to 'guess' when you don't have a host, the place has a much greater chance of deteriorating to the point where it's "unlikable" for the RV'ers. It's much easier and less costly to upkeep and maintain a MCG as a continuing process than it is to let it fall apart, then try to get large funding to do major repairs.

I agree some camp host are needed. We have ran into some really nice and helpful hosts. I do recall though we were in the Southwest, and went to the office and was given our site number. We had no problem finding our site, but when we got there, we found a truck parked in our site. We saw the camp host sign right across from our site. We sat there hoping he may come out. My husband got out, and went to several sites, asking if they know who's truck it was. Know one could help us. The camp host did not answer his door, so we sat there for 5 more minutes. I finally convinced my husband to tap the horn. We had a long day of traveling, and I just wanted to set up. Would you believe the camp host came running our, yelling, that is not acceptable (meaning, a tap of the horn). The clincher was, the truck belonged to someone who was visiting him. I can't believe he did not hear the knock on the door, or saw us sitting there. I almost felt like they were thumbing there nose at us. Though we have teased each other using the phrase, that is not acceptable, > ??? it was not funny at the time. This certainly was a host on a power trip.

Camp host at Panama city navel support Facility is always busy, fixing this claening that. but in alot of places they just take up a campp site and loose $$$$ for the CG.
I glad to see people are starting see Mayport for what it is. A campground for a select group of homesteaders and that special click that come threw on there way too and from Key West. Last I know Bob Baylis was the manager and he ran his way and by his rules. I have not been back since i got into it with him. But that is maybe what they want. More room for the crew.

I can't understand all the fuss about Pelican Roost. My wife and I have stayed there many times in the last few years and we have always been given a spot, even when we just showed up without reservations. The restrooms are always clean, the "Roost" is full of activity the laundry is free and the staff is polite and friendly.
What more do we want from a MCG?
