I like and share Master Chief's point of view, and envy his situation of being able to stay 6 months at a time. Also, it must be nice for the volunteers to get ANY compensation, being we don't get ANY here for the 25+ hours. (except the benefit of not having to leave)

Speaking of homesteading, we arrived at Foster Creek this afternoon for a couple of days. I had heard that Foster Creek has some issues with homesteading. When I arrived I noted that a lot of spaces were available given that this was Saturday afternoon. The last time we were here, we noted that high number of apparent homesteaders that were here.
Seems they have a new campground host (retired Navy chief) who was curious about who was staying in his campground. He found that he had many people staying here who had no affiliation with the military other than they were friends or distant relatives of military members who did not live in the campground.
I am pleased to say that the chief has been very successful in getting this issue under control. Foster Creek is really a nice campground in a high tourist area that is now open for business for military customers.

OOOPS! Foster Creek is at the Charleston (SC) Naval Weapons Station. Charleston is a great city to visit. The interstate system makes it very easy to get around and there are a lot of things to see and do.

Excellent -- I often make the trip up and down the east coast and look for MCG's where the homesteaders have NOT taken over ... my stays are usually less than a week at any one spot, although I stay at King's Bay longer usually...

Come on folks. I see a lot of really senior (past and present) people here side stepping just about everything. “Homesteading” is “Homesteading” and is best described in Army 215. “Snow Birding” Is “Snow Birding” and is allowed because some campgrounds have a “length of stay” rule that makes it desirable. These campgrounds didn’t expand to 250-400 sites just on the chance passers by would keep if full. Other campgrounds are designed for the passer by and their rules are made for that type of usage. Moral Welfare & Recreation (MWR) or whatever name it may go by is just that and has it’s own policies, procedure and rules. Each branch of the military is directed by DoD to establish and run it’s own form of MWR. It is not now nor has it ever been intended for temporary quarters. Sure, people may use it that way but only under the existing campground rules. During my years in the military I stressed adherence to rules and regulations to my peers and those subordinate to me. We are a country governed by law and order - rules and regulations - dos and don’ts. We learn them and live by them. They constantly change and we change with them. If we see an injustice we strive to correct it and we do this by bringing it to the attention of the ones that have the power to change it and make things right. Only with a positive attitude can we be successful in these tasks.
