ResQChief9, I do remember what 1900 hours is and comments like that is just what rubs me wrong about you. With a little luck you'll never be parked next me. I'll let others decide if your an asset or otherwise to this board. I suspect any further bantering between us would not accomplish anything postive so I'll terminate it on my end.

I fully agree that the ResQChief9 makes unwanted remarks that rub the retiree wrong. As I made a committ earlier it is the things he says and the way he says them that makes you not want to discuss things with him.
If you are currently active duty and doing what you say then I appraise you for your service to this country, but you have a long way to go to be a retiree.

I am certainly glad to have found this thread. Yes we are retired and fulltime RVers. We have, how ever in the last 11 months used only two facilities. One is actually not a FamCamp, but owned and run by Nottoway County on the now BRACed Fort Pickett in VA. We did use it for 3 monhts but there were multiple sites unused as few people realize its location and that it really is open to civilians as well as DoD personel. We would and could have moved out if needed. We have used Ocean Pines at NAS Oceana twice, once a week and once for a night.
Having said all of that as a disclaimer we are now feeling the pinch. I just today recieved a reply from Yuma informing me that they do not accept reservations and that they have no sites or dry camp spots available for the one or two nights we planned on being there. They do not expect that to change in the near future. I am sure we will run into the same situation in El Paso in a few days.
Believe me when we get to these FamCamps I plan to check out the lay of the land there and if appropriate a letter to the CO will happen.
I have no problem with TDY, active duty waiting for permanent housing transition either to base housing or the private secter. But if you are retired in your RV then move along after 30 days, after all isn't that why you bought a house on wheels? In the really popular spots in the south and southwest during the winter the campground is not going to go empty. If the CO wants to let someone sit there all summer in 110+ degree heat ( and pay extra for the electricity to run the A/C) then have at it, but during the popular season certain criteriea should apply.
Okay I've vented for my first post.....I promise forever more to be a helpful contributeo

As I have said in another thread, for Army campgrounds there is a way to force the commander to take a look at length of stay policies. The Army MWR regulation specifically prohibits homesteading, to include use of the campgrounds as housing. The way to force the commander to look at the policy to is file an IG complaint that the commander is in violation of the regulation. It worked at Ft. Gordon and they now enforce a 30 day stay limit. The Army reg is quoted below.
"I do not know what each service regulation says, but I do know that the current Army Regulation AR 215-1, which governs Army MWR, specifically prohibits "homesteading".
"(b) Homesteading or use of Army travel camps or other outdoor recreation facilities for temporary or permanent quarters is not authorized. Length of stay policy for Army recreation areas and campgrounds is established by the garrison commander. Army facilities located on Corps of Engineer property constitute the only exception to the stay limit policy. Stay limits on Corps property are 30 days within a 60 consecutive day period during peak season, and 60 days within a 90 consecutive day period during the off season"

There are exceptions to all rules. Fort Bliss allows students at the Sgt Major Academy to stay in the CG untill they have completed the course of instruction. When I was there two months ago the motor coach next to me was occupied by such a person.

"There are exceptions to all rules" says Fasteagle
-- and you bet that's right ... unfortunately, the problem with this whole issue is the guys that break the rules, don't ask first -- Which is not how it should be here. It seems the guys breaking the rules are simply staying as long as they can until someone does something about it ... always seems to me these same guys are the ones that I find no interest in meeting or talking with either ... that selfish behavior shows up in a hot minute ... can't hide something like that --
If the camps were run appropriately, and according to the rules, the rotation would always occur, and then guys that wanted to stay longer for specific reasons (medical, TAD, whatever) would then ask for permission and the CO should grant on a case-by-case ... that means everyone is then equal -- instead we get homesteaders that hog the sites, or find some "tiny worker do-its" to manipulate the rules for self-gain ...
