Here is my input,
Dish is a bit cheaper per month, the channel line up is very simular for the basic package, however check them close to see what they offer. Direct is more forgiving as far as sighting the sat. My brother in law says that almost without exception, everyone at the marina where he keeps his boat uses direct as it does not loose signal with small waves etc.
A dish/direct installer said that direct can use either coax cable without problem however dish requires the larger one.
I have had direct for 8 years, and have been using the east/west feeds for 4 years. The price went up a bit, with direct don't know about dish.
I guess it is just a coin toss as far as personal preferences go.

Hi Ric,
We have used the Dish Network ever since we started full timing in 2003. We use the Dish 500 which allows us to have two TVs on different stations. Our long time travel friends use Direct TV and they can use three TVs with their system. We both use tripods and signal finders and almost always find our satellites in the same amount of time. There is only a few dollars difference in our monthly bills and we get just about all the same channels.
A little over a year ago the Dish Network lost a law suit that allowed them to give us (RVers) local (east & west coast) network channel coverage. You can still get them through a third party but it’s a hassle and if we were going to continue full timing we would change to Direct TV because of it.

My 2 cents worth..
We never used Dish, so can't comment on that service. We've used DirectV fulltiming in the RV for 4 years. No problems. We recently changed to a DirecTV DVR, which we like. We have the East/West feeds and had no problem getting the feeds by sendng in the waiver. Since we're not on a land phone line, we order pay-per-view online and it's instantly enabled on both of our recievers. Unfortunately, the DVR will only keep pay-per-view shows for 24 hours (to prevent piracy). If needed, we can recod it on tape or DVD.
Our DirecTV is automated on our MotoSat/Hughes.net Internet dish mounted on the roof. We've only had problems finding a signal a few times because of trees blocking the signal.

We just got Directv service 2 weeks ago. They always seem to have promos on, so we got a good deal on the most basic package. Satisfied with signal, customer service located in West VA (not India!!). I'm pretty non-technical, but had no difficlutly moving installation from home (with a tripod) to the RV and back. Mounted on a tripod as we'll be going full time next month. FYI, I see a lot more Directv dishes in parks that Dish Network.
