Pretty interesting read on homesteading in that lead article.

Anybody know how to contact the writer, would like to discuss some facts with her/him?

It's on the home page of this site florida. Interesting argument, but it seems to just be a re-hash of the ongoing Homesteading debate here in the forums. Just my opinion.

Thanks Sarge. I think it's a well written letter that makes a good case against campers that drop anchor and set up long term residence. I'm sure someone could poke holes in some of the opinions that are presented as fact but the reasoning is solid IMHO. I don't see a problem with each service managing their campgrounds with different rules and I'm not sure that each service has campground rules that get down in the weeds. That gives each base commander some latitude to manage his/her own MWR programs. Are the individual directives posted on this website for each service?

We agree with you totally on this subject, every campground has it's own set of rules and the lack of uniformity, even amongst the branches of service, is frustrating for those of us who are full-time RV'ers. We can understand if a base has a lack of housing or affordable housing or is in a remote area but we have witnessed this all over the country during our travels.

Homesteading is a topic that comes up here on a regular basis and we all have our interpretation of what it means. I looked at the British Definition and it is "a SCHEME whereby council tenants are enabled to buy derelict property from the council and renovate it with the aid of Government grants". Are there similarities to what we interpret homesteading in our military campgrounds, I think so? I am also bothered by the RV's that head south and sit in the same military campground every year for 3 to 6 months and more and then when it warms up they go back up North. As we have visited different military campgrounds these past 4 months I am pleased to say there are those that will never change the "stay forever rule" but find a way to not advertise it and then there are the ones that really know what Recreational Vehicles are used for, to travel and explore this great country of ours.
