The "Rent A Cops" are super professional and do a better ID check than the Security Forces in the Yorktown, VA area and Ft Stewart, GA. They have a professional greeting, always check both sides of my ID card and can answer any question I have. I don't agree with them wearing the squadron SFS until ballcap though. They are not in the military, but I am glad their presence allows one more SFS person to go over to fight the war.

We are leaving King's Bay in a couple of days after a month stay. Just wanted to say that the gate guards (civilian security)here are the best I've ever seen. I've never seen another group that is this professional. Maybe it's this Trident base ? They are ready to work, standing fully armed and they look everything over. I've never had the rent-a-cops on Barksdale (or anywhere for that matter) salute & say to me "thank you for your service". These guys (ok, ok. I forgot;"and Gals")are 1st rate.
Also I re-registered my truck here today. So easy & it's good until 2015. Ft. Rich up in AK does it for 2 yrs only. As far as Base stickers, ID checks, gate guards, etc goes.."it's Go Navy" for me. And I'm ret AF. ha !

We are at Kings Bay now, and I could not agree more. It's almost like going through 2 gates. The civilian guard looked at my ID and when he could not see past my husband, he asked where I was. The second part which is maned by the military, really stood out.
We went to dinner that evening, and went through a spot check. I don't think spot check was the right word. I have never seen such a thorough search. Yes, it was inconvenient, but they can inconvence me anytime. They were polite, and very professional. Sure gave me peace of mind. I wished the other bases would use Kings Bay as an example.

Ft. Benning, Ga. guards are in the category of Kings Bay, top notch and they are using the hand held digital devices to read both our cards. What a difference when we entered Mayport and military personnel were at the gate, really pathetic. Barely looked at my card when entering in the RV and when we entered in the car later on I had my card and my wifes card in my hand and attempted to hand them both. She never took either of them from my hand and barely could see mine as she was chatting with another person at the gate.

We're back at Barksdale after returning to AK for Xmas. In 2 months the brand-new, whiz bang, Bio-metric, ID cards are now-PASSE. When we left in early Dec you positively could not enter base w/out teh new scannable ID cards. Now in Feb nobody even scans them at the gates. I asked "what happenned"? I was told that gate guards don't use the new scanners except after 5 pm. I guess that's when terrorists check in thru the base gates. Oh well, some contractor made a lot off of this "innovation".
About base stickers. FYI- In Oct. 09 Elemndorf wasn't issuing decals. Lots written about USAF bases & this subject. By Dec 2009 Elmendorf was registering with decals again, since it's officially a Joint Base. So we Alaskans can now get a sticker/decal again. The more things change the more they stay the same-huh ? You got to laugh, dont ya ?
