Interesting experience yesterday on this subject -- had the cracked windshield replaced on my son's truck. Sticker crumbled when the guy removed it. But, I didn't think about it and drove it over to the base ... Otis ANG base on Cape Cod -- it has private 'gate guards' not MP's ...

So, as I'm approaching the gate, I realize I don't have the sticker... look in GB, "Oh, Oh, no registration card". So, pull up ready to explain and hope.

"Guard" sticks his head out of the shack, looks at my ID card from about 10 feet away, and waves me in. So, much for security.

Found the reg card later in the side-boot -- and the truck is legal ... but pretty lax at the gate regardless.

Sadly, I have been finding this the case at other bases, with private guards. This has really has concerned me. I also have some stories about this situation, but am keeping it this message short. I really am getting more nervous about staying at some of these bases.

Most AF installations have or are doing away with the DOD stickers, 100% ID check only to enter. I thought this was going DOD wide.

Still need stickers at Ft Bliss, Tx. If going to VA which is on post you only need to ID's.and of course your VA med card.

Nope, just the Air Force. All the other services require a base sticker. The nearest base to us is Air Force, even though they now have 2000 Navy folks, in two squadrons, out there. Got a new windshield in the coach so no longer have a sticker on it. Can't see driving 60 miles, buring diesel, to the nearest Army base just to get a base sticker. Guess I'll just have to take the time to get one at the first non Air Force base we come across in our travels.

I find it very odd that only the Air Force stopped using stickers. WHY??? Over the past 2 weeks we stayed USAF FamCamps and were told at each gate that stickers were no longer required at their base. What happened to military security? Went through Camp Lejeune, NC about 2 months ago and the Marine guard said I didn't need a pass to go through. I also found that to be strange.
