The Air Force Retiree Letter explains the new base entry requirements. Bases are emplementing the new scan procedure for ID cards. You must register to be in the system. Only a few bases have this system now, but by Jan 2011, most AF Bases will have emplemented the system and in order to get entry to the base you must be in the system, or you'll be directed to register. Also, realignment is going to have joint installations and who ever the host service is, you'll be required to have their type entry requirements. Navy, Army, etc.,. have stickers for the auto's. You'll be required to maintain a sticker on your vehicle. Only if the Air Force is the installation host, then you'll be able to enter with the ID scan. I'm assuming everyone in your family with an ID, will also be required to be scanned. This is totally unofficial, and subject to change, but it's my latest research.
