Lots of variables here - seems to me best way to handle this, next time you find a base that issues sticker, get one. Then it doesn't matter if it's required or not when you arrive.

We never have a hassle getting on base, and when mys ticker expired, we entered several bases just showing ID, never insurance. Within a month, we arrived Kings Bay - which requires a sticker - and got one good for five years or so. Took five minutes.

Ft. Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia still require DOD stickers. It's easy to get one there but you MUST enter through the Montgomery gate. They do 100% ID check also. Sure wish all the bases would drop the stickers so we don't have to travel around and find a base that will issue them.

The Marine Recruit Training base doesn't require the DOD stickers. Great place to visit for Beaufort,SC.

Kings Bay didn't require a sticker when I went there. Security was very pleasant and welcoming.

Not to argue with you DutchStar, but I was at King's Bay last week and they DID require a DOD sticker. The little SP on duty couldn't see mine until she walked a few feet in front of my truck and was able to see over the hood.

Another camper with me had the sticker but hadn't put it on his windshield yet (he's getting the windshield replaced). He had to stop for the visitor pass.

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

I've been to many military installations in the past year to include Air Force, Navy and Army. They all check your ID cards. Stickers were required at Navy and Army sites. I live near Selfridge ANG Base and you can't register your vehicle there. Since I spend most of the winter and spring in the south at Army and Navy installations I needed a window decal. It's a pain in the - to keep getting temporaries. So when my decal expired 3 years ago I registered my vehicle at NAS Pensacola and will renew it there this spring. I will be at Fort Benning in February and will check to see if they are discontinuing the decals.

I agree with Sarge, King's Bay is very high security base - been camping there for years and it always requires a sticker.

In addition, got my sticker renewed a few months ago. Had the new one in my hand - it was raining - so took it through the gate. Guard would NOT let me in unless I parked under the canopy, scraped my old on off, and stuck the new one on.

Not all bases are that 'tough' on it, but most that still require stickers also issue them. Unless after hours, then guest pass until offices open.
