if you have any natinal parks, state parks etc in your area go on line and check for volunteer positions. you get hookups etc. lots f us do that also when we can't get to a militry cAMPSITR. KEEP THE NUMBER. IF YOU NEED TO TALK I'M AVAILIBLE... 21 years, 31/2 navy MM2, rest army, e4 to Major 04. May not have the answer your looking for but i am a good listener sometimes. good luck. Civil Service is a b...... Take anything to get in and then do the lats and the vericals. you kind of make your own career in Civil service.

Personally, I think everyone got fired up because the topic title: "MWR rules need to be changed" opened up a can of worms and had little to do with Geoff's problem. And then right after that, he says "so I can save money" ... neither one of which is relevant to his problem ... and "So an AD can save money" will never be a good reason to change the extended-stay rules.
A better choice here would have been "Here's my problem, how can I solve it" ... and we finally got around to that as well ... and one suggestion here -- you say "civil service" as if that's all you will accept. SO, I wonder about that ... lots of "less pay jobs" out there. How I see it, is 25 hours a week at BJ's or K-Mart for $400 a week is better than 25 hours at a CG for nothing -- and it more than pays for the site (or rent), and leaves "something" for other bills. Short-term it will at least give you some breathing room. And tour of duty is time-specific too, so after this one (wife AD) maybe you'll get to a better area. But, you have to think outside that idea about changing MWR rules -- that solves nothing in the real world of AD finance issues, really is a dead end.
And, GI Bill now is up towards $1000 a month -- and I believe AD military gets local college fee rates even if you don't meet the residency ... in addition, school loans or subsidies pay tuition and living costs as well. Sometimes short-term fix with long-term goal can work pretty well in your situation.

So Boys, after reading all that, tell me, how do you truly feel about "homesteaders." Come on, you can tell me. Just trying to inject a little humor into this, even though there is really nothing humorous about "homesteading" and I thought someone aptly stated the intent...MCGs are for MWR (morale- welfare-recreation) Nowhere in there does it say HOUSING or QUARTERS. That's why one gets that LARGE housing allowance, not so they may take up permanent space in a MCG and pocket the difference. Just a sidenote, we recently stayed at Mid-South MCG in Millington Tn( a great place, by the way) and I was talking to one retired Navy person that had been LIVING in a 5th wheel there for over a year while his wife lived in Savannah Ga. He was a Civil Servant working at Mid-South....But, the good news was, they had a space for me, as long as I wanted to stay, no stay limits once you had a site.....Enough.....Just thought I'd throw that out there....

M44: PM recv'd, will get back with you.
Larry: You sound dissapointed, so let me try to chear you up.
MailMan: Question for you: Would it be true to say that a) It seems you share the majorities opinion on homesteading, and b) when you were at that tiny MCG (my neighbor took a video of that CG for another camper heading out to it) you talked to a homesteader about his situation, and it got you to inquire as to if you could do the same?
For everyone else: Another question: How do you feel if AD, (who collect BAH, single or married) either homesteading or not, (meaning following all the rules, NEVER infringe upon anyone's ability to get a spot, at MCG or civilian CG) save as much as possible by living in an RV?
This should be good.

This should be a new topic ... otherwise, when new readers come on here that haven't been here yet, you get two discussions wrapped into one post section ... confusing at best.
