Probably true, but that's not what you asked for originally and ticked some people off here on this site.
And maybe those sites are empty "BECAUSE" the CO changed the rules so fulltimers could not fill them up -- the best and most purposeful use for MCG under its main guidelines is RECREATION -- that is, to allow ANY military to have one available for camping when a camper needs or wants it for short-term stay. And if meeting that criteria means that some of the sites are vacant some of the time, then that's how it should be.
And that should NEVER be changed as far as I'm concerned, and nothing pisses me off more than to arrive at a MCG wanting to stay in the area for a week or so and find it full because some individuals are "selfishly motivated" and staying longer than the day-limit that allows equal sharing of all recreation activities, including MCGs.
You can bet one thing, if and when that time-limit rule is ever changed, all MCGs will be full all the time and begin degrading in quality because too many of the "fulltimers" plant themselves on a site, build little fences and sheds, and begin 'cutifying' the sites, then stop after awhile and the sites fall apart for lack of maintenance.

Geoff,
Truly I understand your frustration. I just don't understand why you are blaming fulltimers. We got a seasonal at a resort we belong to in DE. We were in there members location, for three years. The rules were you could stay for 2 weeks and leave a week. After buying the membership, it only cost $360, a year. It was a deal of a lifetime, especially when you consider it is on the water and 12 miles to Rehoboth beach. We would leave the week and go to a campground 10 miles a way. Well, they were filling up so fast last year and people complained, so they changed their rules. Now you can only stay 10 stays in and 10 out. We bought a pontoon boat and rented a slip a year after our membership, and thought we had died and went to heaven. You can imagine how much this new rule upset the membership. We decided to bite the bullet, because the rates went up at the other campground, and as you know gas prices went through the roof, so we paid $3600 dollars for a seasonal., not including what we had paid for our slip. Well, the membership has not been full since. I don't think anyone was expecting this gas crisis which cause prices not only gas to go up, but most everything else.
We are not rich and had to go into savings to pay for the seasonal. It is not only the military that can change the rules. I'm sure you have heard the saying the squeaking door gets the oil, but sometimes, it hurts more than it helps. You also have to remember the population is aging, and us baby boomers, have been a force to reckon with for decades. Now with the economy, it has effected everyone. Many of the boomers are not retiring when they have hoped to or some are even going back to work. We are all in this together, so rant if you must, but please don't blame us. The people here at the resort are not happy either, and I'm sure it has effected others, including yourself. Rules are rules rather they are made for the military or the private sector. Just look at roads, and you can see that many don't feel the rules are to be followed by everyone. It sure would be nice, if we just followed the rules, because rather we like it are not it is for the greater good. Even though the campground was not full this time, that can change if the economy, improves.
I hope your new job, will help your situation, and that you will like it. We have to do what we have to do, and in the end it can strengthen us and make us stronger. You, also must know the saying, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. You will find it less stressful, and better for your health in the long run. I am wishing you the best, in these hard times, you already have made the first step by getting out and doing something about it.

And, I just read my post again -- and don't take my comment like all fulltimers are in this basket. SOME fulltimers abuse the privileges, and make it more difficult for the rest that do fulltiming as a lifestyle choice and do abide by the rules.
And once again as laryl points out, civilian CGs are a totally different animal, and are in business to make a profit. AND, civilian CGs CAN make the rules. But, MCGs are for a different purpose and have the rules set for a reason.

I understand what you guys are saying, it's just frustrating to me.
Karyl: I wasn't blaming the fulltimers, I AM a fulltimer. I guess if I was blaming anyone, it would be the retirees. (Geoff ducks)
I thank you for the warm wishes, and appreciate the bz for my efforts. I believe the KOA will be good for us. I know the economy has to be hard on everyone, and we are just trying to keep our head above water and minimize it's effect on us. Both me and the wife just put in 7 hours at the KOA, it was fun working the her, she caught on fast to the store and reservations systems. I think this will be a good lifestyle for us now, but mostly when she retires, when we can travel and workkamp.

And why would you do that (blame retirees) ... I hope you (and everyone that reads this post session, myself included) learn something about this lifestyle and how it effects different people in different ways. We are all in this (MCGs) together -- and everyone should abide by the rules, or use proper channels to gain what might be a temporary fix for a specific situation ...
SO, will quench the flames with a "good luck" wish to Geoff at his new 'home' ...

Gee, Geoff. How can your problems possibly be anyone's fault but your own? Looks like you did not do very much research.
No one made you buy a rig (which in many state is considered a second home) and live in it. What are you going to do when your wife is transferred to a place that does not have a MCG???
Who are you gonna blame then????????
