Maine will still have two active duty bases; both of them Coast Guard. One on S.Portland and the other up in SW Harbor.

Most MCGs locations are on-base , so generally the base will have the sticker facility at the gate. Some debate about whether stickers are requiured or even available at all bases now. But I have yet to enter one that does not have an entry gate where you can get a sticker, although I guess some are out there based on discussion here. You'll need ID card, registration, and proof of insurance for any vehicle you want stickered ... including a "toad" ...
If you have or want a motorcycle sticker, you need MC certification as well -- that means you completed a MC skills course and have that certification on your driver's license.

Since we never use a base at home we don't have any stickers. When we travel we just get temp passes. It can be somewhat inconvienant at times but what's the rush? When I haul the motorcycle I make sure I carry my Motorcycle Safety Course Card from 1972 so it can prove how safe I am. Actually, I find it to really wild that I MUST have that MSF card to drive my Harley on base but all I need is the standard papers to drive my 38 ft motor home haulin a 20 FT trailer. At least I won't fall off the motorhome. The logic evades me.

I know weird ... Hadn't been riding for awhile and took my son's bike on the road with me a few years ago. Arrived at the base in Georgia ... couldn't get on base without sticker or MC certificate -- called the MC guy, and he said -- come in, and I'll take you out to the course and let you run it, then renew your certificate ... Gate guy says, can't come in without it, said to gate guy, gotta go in to ride the course to get the certificate, gate guy says, can't come in without it ... so finally, the MC guy comes over, argues with the gate guy - gives me a temp MC pass, and I went in ran the course and got a new certificate ... blind leading the blind sometimes. Can't come in without it, can't get it without coming in and running the course ............ lots of fun that day.

I love it! Makes as much sense as showing my OLD MSF card. Just glad I kept that thing so I didn't have to re-take the course.
