Hello, My name is Bill. I have been retired from the AF since 1992. Retired completely in March of this year when I had a double bypass. My recovery is great and ready to travel. Get the hell out of Dodge (San Antonio). We are staying in San Antonio until the 27th of December to get all the kinks out of the new fifth wheel and out of our bodies before we head out! We will stay in Phoenix for a couple months visit Daughter and grand kids. Then into California to Travis to do some space A travel. Does anyone here know if they can accommodate our fifth wheel and pickup for a few months there on base? We are now living the dream!

Travis AFB has a parking area for those raveling on Space A. Your ruck and 5W will fit there. I don't think you'll be able to leave it in the FamCamp. Hope you have a safe trip!

See a lot about status and limited use. All instructions and DODI allow all personnel that are listed. The issue or understanding comes from limited. This has no effect on campground but use of some areas like commissaries are the reason for limited NOT the campgrounds. DOD civilians and retired DOD civilians in which most all are veterans who moved from active to civilian. The commissaries and uses that they couldn't use anyway are the reasons for limited. Commanders can authorize PX and commissaries use in some situations but that is the reason. All civilians retirees should get a retirees CAC ID after retirement to gain access to all bases just like military retirees. All DOD camping rules come from the United States Code title 5 and title 10.

This wouldn't be the first time I didn't know what I'm talking about, BUT, if you're saying that all retired DOD civilian employees have full access to military campgrounds, I think you're wrong. I find it hard to believe that access to military campgrounds is even mentioned in federal law. And you'll have a hard time convincing base commanders that is not their decision. JMHO
