The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

It's been a couple of weeks since I've been on here, but I can safely report that I survived a weekend with 7 grandkids and a full week with 4 of them! It was my first time at Fort Fisher and I was impressed. Great campground and facilities, with lots of things for the little ones to do. Yes, they were replacing all the water lines on base, but there seemed to be little disruption.
Fast forward a week...I'm out in the Black Hills now and really enjoying the area (as usual...LOL) Looks like I got off the East coast just in time before the heat wave hit. Weather's beautiful, temps in the high 70's, low 80's during the day, down in the 60's at night.
I tried to stay at Ellsworth, but all the sites were full and I would have had to spend a couple of days in the overflow. I didn't want to do that, so I moved a few miles up the road to the Three Flags RV Park in Black Hawk, SD. It's a Passport America park with no restrictions on your stay (except during Bike Week in Sturgis) and only $14/night for a full hookup, including GOOD cable TV. Very clean and well maintained, but it's just basically a place to stay...no pool or any of that stuff. Keep it in mind if you need a Plan B if you're visiting the area and Ellsworth is full.
I hope you all are having a great summer wherever you are!

You're making us jealous - sorry we missed you in SD John, but we're back in HOT stormy Florida for a bit. Will get back on that road again soon and maybe catch up.
Weird, we drove up to the TH and had huge flames and smoke right behind us ... but turned out a 'controlled burn' on state conservation behind us. Scary way to arrive home ...

Hey Bill! You think it's hot there? It was 107 here the other day!!! I saw a bear sitting in a sprinkler....REALLY! High 90's, low 100's projected for the next few days, but I'm having a great time. I love coming back to the Black Hills!
See ya down the road....have a safe trip!

If the DW's recovery from CMC surgery goes as planned, we would like to head west from Ohio to the Grand Canyon in September. That would put us back home in time to handle the fall cores (read leaves) before heading to MacDill for the winter.

Well have a safe trip and drive careful! Keep us all posted on how your trip goes. Would like to hear about the campgrounds and sites along the way.
